The Arousal-Performance Relationship: Task Characteristics and Performance Measures in Track and Field Athletics

چکیده

Two issues regarding the arousal-performance relationship in sport were addressed in this study: the relationship between task complexity, optimal arousal, and maximal performance, and the appropriateness of using various measures of performance. Data were collected from high school athletes (n=51) across four track and field meets. State anxiety was obtained prior to each performance and three performance measures were obtained (event results, and quality of performance evaluated by the athlete and by the coach). Results indicated that the three performance measures were not equally related to A-state, suggesting that the relationship between arousal and performance results in a different description depending upon the performance measure that is used. Furthermore, degree of task complexity wuld not be distinguished across various track and field events. When individual events were used to examine the arousal-performanceltask complexity relationship, results revealed that level of A-state needed for maximal performance could not be differentiated for specific events, nor could it be determined for above average, average, or below average performances on any one event.

The relationship between parents' rating and performance-based measure of executive function in preschool children

Introduction: Both performance-based and rating measures are used to evaluate preschool children’s executive functions. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between performance-based tasks and parental rating of executive functions in preschool children. Method: The present study was a descriptive correlational study. The current study population consisted of all 4 and 5-years-old p...

Effects of track characteristics on dynamic responses of train-bridge systems

High speed trains are an indispensable part of rapid transportation systems in many countries. As the fastest means of transport on the ground, these trains are extremely sensitive to the terrain and track conditions. Geometrical irregularities and mechanical characteristics of the track, together with inconsistencies in the lane (including bridges that support the track) are considered importa...

The Effect of Task Repetition and Task Recycling on EFL Learners' Oral Performance

One of the major criticisms leveled at task-based language teaching (TBLT), despite its countless merits, is developing fluency at the cost of accuracy. The post-task stage affords a number of options to counteract this downside through task repetition and task recycling. These two options are considered to positively affect learners' oral performance in terms of fluency, accuracy, and complexi...

Exploring Relationships Between Field (In)dependence, Multiple Intelligences, and L2 Reading Performance Among Iranian L2 Learners

L2 learners’ individual differences are crucial factors that deserve attention in L2 education. Focusing on 2 main areas of individual differences (i.e., field (in)dependence and multiple intelligences), this study explored their relationships with L2 reading performance. Participants were 64 TEFL undergraduates and postgraduates. To assess the participats’ degree of field (in)dependence and mu...

Arousal and activation in a pistol shooting task

Aims: Precise pistol shooting is influenced by arousal, which has been recently defined as an individual’s energetic state at a particular time and is measured by skin conductance level. On the other hand, task related activation has been defined as the change in arousal, from a resting baseline to the task situation. Present study was performed in order to investigate whether previous theories...
